I am very excited for E.A., a 12-year-old Learning Ears client of mine!
E was diagnosed with Central Auditory Processing Disorder and hyperacusis (over-sensitivity to certain sounds). E has had great difficulty reading because of CAPD and because letters would move around on the page or disappear. She has struggled through many interventions that haven't helped much, leaving her very frustrated. In week 8 of her Learning Ears program, E reported: "A spider climbing on the wall used to startle me. Now I can still hear it, but it's not so obvious. If I'm not listening for it, it's not there. It's like I can switch it on and off. Letters have stabilized, except if it's tiny print they'll still move sometimes. I've gotten through more books in the last week or two than I've done in the rest of my life." MY STORY
I got into the field of therapeutic listening programs through my own search to recover my singing voice. I used to be a professional soprano, performing principal roles in regional opera and as a soloist with area choirs, symphonies and ensembles. One day, my choir director called me into her office after rehearsal and told me I was often not singing on pitch. This was news to me, and had never been a problem in a lifetime of singing! I was devastated. I had to leave the choir, and my performing career was over.
It took a long time for me to realize that I literally couldn't hear that I was not on pitch in a certain part of my range. I could hear if my piano was out of tune or if my students were not on pitch - why couldn't I hear myself? My search for answers led to the work of Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis, a French ear, nose & throat physician who discovered The Tomatis Effect: The voice can only reproduce what the ear can hear. My own listening training restored my ability to hear myself accurately, and set me on a wonderful journey. I became certified in several programs, and am so excited by the wide range of issues they can help. I know these programs work from my own experience, and I love to share the benefits of this work! | TESTIMONIALS

She's more than a teacher - she's a highly intuitive artist who understands how to bring out the most of her students. She is inspiring, an amazing singer herself, and she's always willing to walk the extra mile to find the best learning material for her students. Working with Ariana really changed how I use my voice. I highly recommend working with her." -J Wellner “Ariana is a very educated professional who has a wealth of experiences to bring into her therapeutic practice. Any student will love working with her. She is jovial and makes her work so interesting and appealing to her students. Ariana's training has made it possible for her to work with students with speech/language needs, learning disabilities, Sensory-Motor Integration issues, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and much more. Having trained together to become Certified Learning Ears Practitioners, I have experienced her knowledge, wisdom, creativity, and desire to bring her clients the best programs available. Perry, my husband and partner, and Ariana became Certified Bone Conduction providers with THE LISTENING PROGRAM in Utah together. Perry enjoyed training with Ariana and he felt that she was the most knowledgeable and articulate participant at the training. I highly recommend Ariana's services. - Claudette Anderson "Prescription for Success Learning Center" "Ariana Newcomer has both anatomic and intuitive knowledge of the body, deeply skilled hands, and a kind heart. These characteristics make her an excellent massage therapist. When I send patients to her, I know that she will understand and assist in the healing process." —Kim R. Beecher, D.C. |
